2022 marks our 90th Anniversary.

Spontex was born in 1932 with the creation of the world’s first cellulose sponge and since then we’re delighted to say that we have gone from strength to strength to become the UK's No1 Cleaning Tools & Gloves brand.*

We’re proud to call ourselves the champion of less effort! We’ve dedicated the last 90 years to creating products that make housework less time consuming, easier to get done and whenever possible, a bit more fun! Choose any cloth, scourer, glove, mop or broom, all made with that Guaranteed Spontex Quality and you can be sure that we’ve used our know how to add an extra “trick” to make household tasks better, quicker and easier!

- Our Handy Tough Scourer has a unique handle that helps the scourer keep its shape during use.
- Our Magic Effect Microfibre Cloths have a special coating so they stay flexible and pliable when they dry out, they won't go stiff and rigid.
- Our Soft Hands Gloves are enriched with sweet almond oil, known for its moisturising benefits. They leave hands feeling soft and silky, even after several uses.
- Our Catch & Clean rubber broom has a unique rubber bristle structure combining V shaped and blade bristles that makes it ultra efficient at picking up all types of dirt including pet hair, on all types of surfaces even carpets.

Since the first amorous encounter in 1999, the hedgehog has adopted the role of unconventional product tester and brand ambassador. With a scrubby topside and soft underneath, just like our scourers, it’s a match made in heaven!

You’ve no doubt spotted him all over our packs, adverts and social media pages, the Spontex hedgehog really has become an integral part of ensuring and reassuring that we maintain the highest levels of quality.

90 YEARS OF COMMITMENT

At Spontex we’re convinced that one of the most important things we need to do is to take care of the home we all share, planet Earth. That’s why we’re working hard to make our products as sustainable as possible by using better sourced materials and packaging:

- Our cellulose sponge scourers, sponge wipes and sponge cloths are made with wood pulp from eco-managed forests that’s 100% biodegradable in up to 6 months.
- We’re also increasing the use of recycled fibres in our scourers, microfibre cloths and all purpose cloths without compromising the efficiency of the products.
- Our microfibre cloths and mop heads can be used with just water to clean or mop efficiently and achieve sparkling results, there's no need to use cleaning detergents which may pollute streams and rivers and what’s more they can be washed and reused again and again.
- We’re striving to reduce plastic packaging and we’ve already switched a lot of our products to 100% recyclable cardboard packaging. The most recent ones being our full Washups range, our Long Lasting Kitchen Cloths and our Handy All Purpose Cloths.
- In 2021, we took a major step forward by launching Spontex Unwrapped, the first microfibre cloths sold without packaging! And we have no intention of stopping there! The first cellulose sponge scourer without packaging is just hitting stores! Keep your eyes peeled 😉
