TerraCycle®
At TerraCycle®, our mission is Eliminating the Idea of Waste®. Businesses, government organisations and people like you collaborate with us globally to keep rubbish out of landfills and incinerators. Through collaboration and innovation with companies like Spontex, we’ve developed the world’s first solutions in everything from recycling to reuse and make it possible to recycle the typically ‘unrecyclable’!
Meet our TOP COLLECTORS

Hear from two of the Spontex Gloves Recycling Scheme's top participants and get their perspective on it.
Spontex cares about keeping our planet just as clean as our homes - and so do we, at TerraCycle®!
Together with Spontex, we created the Spontex® Disposable Gloves Recycling Scheme, to enable thousands of consumers up and down the country to recycle their disposable gloves - saving them from landfills and incinerators, whilst at the same time donating money to schools and charities.
To get to the heart of what the programme does and means, why not hear from two of the scheme’s top participants and get their perspective on it:
Say hello to Sue Wellfare and Vicky Seviour, our top collectors!
Both Sue and Vicky joined the recycling scheme back in 2019 when it first started and have been collecting and recycling gloves ever since.
Doing good for the planet, whilst doing good for charity is at the core of our mission at TerraCycle®, and our rewards system makes it possible to do just that: every disposable glove you send us earns you points. These points can then be redeemed as monetary donations to schools or charities. To get points in the scheme, a parcel of gloves must weigh at least 8 kilos, and you’ll get 50 points per kilo sent (1 point = £0.01 per).
For the United Kingdom as a whole, a total of 2.2 million gloves have been collected, which translates to £7,000 raised for charity - an amazing feat, made possible by participants like Sue, Vicky – and perhaps YOU!
Sue has so far managed to collect and recycle a whopping 100,044 gloves! She donates to various charities and local good causes. From children’s charities like the NSPCC, to local scout groups, dog trusts and mental health organisations, or blood transport charities like SERV Sussex - she’s got it covered on all fronts.
Vicky isn’t far behind, having successfully prevented just over 80,000 gloves from ending up landfilled or incinerated - amazing!
She raises money for Kicks Count, a UK charity working to reduce stillbirths and neonatal deaths. The funds raised are used to make leaflets and information packs for pregnant women, midwives and healthcare professionals.
Vicky is very passionate about this cause, having benefited from the charity’s help when she was pregnant with her now 8 year old son.
Vicky urges individuals to sign up, stating that if we can do something about plastic waste, then we should! Adding “To me, TerraCycle® is a win-win. Why dump something in landfill, when it can be recycled and help save babies?”.
One of the easiest ways to recycle your gloves is by dropping them off at a public drop-off point near you: many people contributing means that more gloves are accumulated, therefore shipments are more frequent, a greater quantity of gloves are recycled, and more funds are raised for charity!
Sue’s drop-off point consists of a blue lidded wheelie bin called Douglas the Drop Off, available 24/7. Vicky’s drop-off points can be found all across Northern Ireland, you can find one near you by visiting her Facebook group here.
Visit our website to find your nearest drop-off point. If you don’t have one nearby, why not set one up yourself? At your local shop, community centre or school, it’s easy - follow this link to set up your TerraCycle® account, then request to join the programme as a drop-off point.
Vicky and Sue are doing their bit to help keep our planet clean, and raise funds for charity along the way - join the movement now and turn your rubbish into rewards: click here to sign up today!
