Floors don't have to be a chore!

Your floor... it's a playground for your kids, it catches your spills and you walk all over it. But when was the last time it was truly clean?

There’s something very gratifying about standing back and looking at a newly mopped floor. It’s as if all the past offending grime and grot has been magically written off and the expanse in front has a shiny new future! Of course, like a lot of areas in the house, the reality is that it won’t stay clean and shiny for long, especially if there are children and animals around.

Mop your floors frequently

It’s important to mop regularly; a dirty floor leaves a room or hallway looking grotty, unloved and definitely unwelcoming. As well as being unattractive, there could be dangers for any little ones toddling around (particularly if you have pets at home). So get into the habit of making mopping a priority, and you can be confident the floors will always look, and actually be, healthy surfaces.

Take your shoes off

Any germs unwittingly walked in from pavements and the road outside (apologies, but think spittle, dog poo and the like) will thrive in a warm house and multiply. If you like to pad around in bare feet your soles will pick up germs. Then you go to lie on the sofa, transferring germs there. Then someone sits down next to you, touches that part of the sofa, and snacks on a few crisps… not nice, is it?

Ditch that mucky mop

Floor mops can be a bit of a dirty secret… brought out to ‘clean’ the floor then hidden away again in a dark corner with all the smelly grime clinging to them, destined to go rock hard. Often putting a mop away clean is a lot more work than doing the floor itself but the problem is, a dirty mop will never give you a clean floor – all you’re doing is spreading muck and germs around the place.

Choose your weapon

Your choice of mop will be a personal one, but there is nothing better than a mop with a microfibre head, what a joy they are to use. You dampen the microfibre, which then cleans with hardly any effort, warm water is all that’s required, there’s no need for any detergent. And here’s the best bit: you whip off the head after you’ve cleaned your floor, pop it into the washing machine, and you can be sure you’ll have a perfectly clean, sweet-smelling mop head each time. It’s so simple, efficient and hygienic – everyone should change to them! Your floor will thank you for it!
